On the almost vertical slopes of Biokovo mountain rising from the depths of Adriatic sea, Brela may just be what vacationer is looking for in southern part of Dalmatian coastline, on Makarska Riviera. Brela is located around 50km south from Split (short video), the largest city in Dalmatia, Croatia, and also around hour drive north from Dubrovnik.

Once a fishing village, today Brela are prime tourist destination with splendid few kilometers long beach. Brela it is one of half a dozen tourist places surrounding city of Makarska which is located 15km drive south from Brela.

Biokovo mountain with its highest peak, St. Jure at 1762m has a few hiking paths going to a few of its peaks from some of locations on Makarska riviera. To get exact location of this paths consult local travel office or buy on one of the newsstands City Guide to Makarska riviera. Besides Croatian it is written in multiple other languages (in 2005).
Just off the coast are some of the most beautiful Croatian Islands, Brac and Hvar (photos) and Korcula.
