- Construction of Panama Canal that connects the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean started French in 1880. Project failed after around 22,000 workers die. In early 20th century Americans completed the project of building the Panama canal. It was open in 1914.
- The Volcano Barú is the highest mountain in Panama (3,474 m. or 11,398 ft.).
