Christmas – a religious holiday
Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.
At midnight on Christmas Eve Christmas mass is held around the world in places of worship.
Every year on December 25th, Christmas day brings joy to many families and friends who come together to celebrates the birth of Jesus.

History
It is widely believed that Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
Birth, life and death of Jesus are recorded in gospels, in the Bible. It is estimated that gospels were written decades, even centuries after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Giving on Christmas

Traditionally Christmas tree is decorated with lights and ornaments on the Christmas Eve even though nowadays is more common doing it ahead of time.
Typically evergreen conifers are used, spruces, pines and different types of firs. The trees are grown on farms for this very purpose.
In the last decades of 20th century artificial Christmas trees had entered the market offering a wide range of sizes, colors, styles, even with build on them light options.
On Christmas eve, December 24th, gifts are left under the Christmas tree for family and friends.
Gifts are open by the family members early on the Christmas day while gifts intended for not present extended family and friends are subsequently given, mostly during the festive gatherings for Christmas lunch or dinner, around the table filled with delicious food, often brimming with traditional dishes and cookies.
Generosity
On days around Christmas time we are remind about those unfortunate in our societies and around the world. To those in need many generously donate as much as they can.

Santa Claus is also known as Saint Nicholas and Father Christmas.
Story tells us that Santa lives on North pole and brings us gifts on Christmas Eve, December 24th, or in some cultures on Saint Nicholas day, December 6th.

Christmas decorations
Often, Christmas tree decorations are passed from one generation to another just as this New England village set that has been for years decorative part of Bob’s and Colette’s home and now is assembled in the author’s home.

Christmas in a modern day society
Apparently, spending on gifts, meals and travel before and around Christmas holidays is a major source of revenue for the economy. Those days are often described as the biggest business days of the year for many stores.
