Samobor
This picturesque town is situated on the eastern slopes of the Samobor hills, just west from Zagreb (video), the capital city of Croatia (discover).

First written document with name Samobor on it dates to year 1242. On that document King Béla IV granted to Samobor status of a free town.

Town and hills surrounding it have always been attractive 20min. away destination for inhabitants of Zagreb who are seeking evening or weekend refuge from busy life in the capital. Samobor hills attract hikers who climb numerous peaks stretching all the way to the Zumberak mountain.

Samobor is a home to numerous restaurants and cafes that can be found in a very center or scattered around the town, in some cases on most amazing places hidden in the hills.
No matter what they tell you somewhere else, in Croatia or in other central-European countries, about their kremshinta cakes, in Samobor are made the best kremshinta cakes – Vanilla Custard Cream cake. 🙂

Valleys curved in foothills, where only creeks and numerous birds are disturbing quietness of the forest, are leading to attractive culinary destinations that just as those in town itself serve Croatian continental culinary specialties that among others include; fresh water trout, cesnjofka sausages, kremshinte cake… – do I have to mention how good pizzas they make, not only in Samobor, but in all of Croatia!?
