Dragon boats in Montréal
Dragon boat race is held annually in Olympic basin on Ile Notre Dame. There are few versions of the story explaining an origin of Dragon Boat Race. Here you’ll find the story we have been told by the competitors.

Chinese mythology tells us story about the poet by name Chu Yuan who committed suicide by drowning in a river. Soon after that villagers took to the river on boats decorated with dragons and beat the drums to scare away evil spirits from poet’s body.
Today’s racers have their boats decorated with dragons, drummer and drum accompanies each boat, same as it happened for the first time around 280 BC.
Montreal International Fireworks Competition
The Montreal International Fireworks Competition is held from June through August, usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Fireworks are lunched from Ile Saint Helene. Public can get the front seat to watch fireworks from the island, but they can be seen also from Old Port Montreal or from Jacques Cartier Bridge, closed for the traffic during the event.
