Acadian Road Trip – An Idea
General idea was born after eyes quickly scanned over the Atlantic shores of North America, mostly Canada. An idea was turning into a solid plan very quickly due to everything that we have read, seen or heard in the past about places along the road we wanted to get on.
Where to?
Just days before vacation was about to begin, potential destinations turned into us planning a road trip through Quebec and The Maritimes – Canada’s eastern provinces – New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Trip would start in Montreal, continue 250km to Quebec city and then along the southern shores of St. Lawrence river and eastern part of the province of Quebec known as Gaspésie until we reach Atlantic.
Idea of not taking the same road twice is also floating in the air so maybe on our way back we could include a State or two in the U.S.?…
The next few days
We continue to list potential stops along the somewhat flexible route planed for our road trip through “Acadia” (Acadie). Journey will definitely begin in Montreal and will take us through Gaspésie region of Quebec (map), then provinces; New Brunswick (map), Prince Edward Island (map) and Nova Scotia (map) in Canada, before last leg of the trip in the US State of Maine (historically with Acadian connection) with a drive through New Hampshire in the USA (map) on the way back to the starting point, completing a full circle.

Is this plan feasible
Available time-span for this road trip: Two weeks is not enough but 14 days is all we have.
Destinations: Quebec, Gaspé, The Maritimes: New Brunswick…(?), Prince Edward Island…(?), Nova Scotia…(?), probably State of Maine – Old Orchard or The White Mountains in New Hampshire, or Vermont to complete the circle.
What to see (or what not to leave behind for some other time): 1. Quebec city for a day 2. Rocher-Percé or Percé Rock in Gaspé Peninsula, QC 3. Village Historique Acadien NB,… every other stop to be determined on the road, depending on the next day(s) weather forecast and the general interest of the travelers.
Starting point, just as the end of the road trip, will be in the largest city in the province of Quebec, Montreal (discover).
Estimated millage: according to a preliminary route, Acadia road trip will be around 3,500+ km or approximately 2,200 miles long, with maybe few ferry crossings to, from and in Nova Scotia. Required amount of gasoline on average costing around $1.05 CA/ liter should not total more than $500.00 CA.
Where to sleep while traveling: Make a reservation only for the first night in a hotel. Let’s be flexible and try different accommodations on the trip that should include camping, glamping, log cabins, B&Bs and more hotels. Budgeted under $2000 CA for accommodations.
So long!
